Are we really going to go down the ‘religion is not about asking questions’ track? Really?
Mass organisations are not about asking questions. It is not about faith.
It is sort of disappointing that people haven’t realised Colin Quinn loves tweet-trolling
…and this is pretty mild trolling by his standards. It’s pretty clear that it’s all a joke. Yeah sure, an emoticon or two could have clarified it, but I can’t imagine Colin Quinn’s voice doing a winky face.
The Hard Truths Behind Dan Harmon’s Community Ousting
An attempt to bring some levity to the hysteria. Of course, the quotes from “sources” have to be taken with as many grains of salt as from Harmon’s mouth, given that they have their own agendas.
Nevertheless, it remains to be seen whether existing fans of Community will accept a new version of Community, if it even is to be all that different. It may be very similar. It may be different, but bad. It may be different, but also good.
I would like to remind everyone of just how many things have to fall in a row to get a great TV series on the air in the first place, let alone to have it run for more than one season. Lots of ideas never even make it to a pilot; many pilots never get picked up.
It’s not just the genius of one man that makes it work, no matter how we’d like to keep the narrative simple that way. Everyone, and that includes network executives, do their part to make it work, even if that means keeping hands off.
I would like to see something more than an echo chamber of hissy fits, I want to see fans rising to the intelligence of the shows they adore.
I would also like Powerpoint/Keynote presentations to go away
The “5 points per slide” rule applies, because of the limitations of the medium. That is to say, make a slide presentation, and people will stare at the screen while you speak. So to keep their attention, you have to keep the slides simple.
Well, how about removing the barrier, and have people talking directly to people? Can we have that?
Since when is 5,000 words considered ‘too long’ for a feature article?
Since the fucking internet. That’s when.
It’s not like it’s a wall of text, either. It’s got photos, a video, a magazine-style layout - everything you need to keep you attentive.
“tl;dr” can go die in a digital fire.
Paul Miller reports from the ultra-Orthodox Jewish internet rally
I don’t care I’m gonna keep reblogging this because excellent reportage like this makes The Verge truly old-school news for the new world.
I mean it. At least watch the video.
I can’t believe there were people there who knew who Paul Miller was, and was following his decision to stay off the internet for a year! He is definitely making a difference.
Against the future: inside the Jewish anti-internet rally
Paul Miller talks to Orthodox Jews about the internet.
This is a must read/watch.
